I
still remember the first time I saw Freya live. It was
here in Kongens Have, too. The weather was fine, and she
was wearing some kind of "get-attention clothes" (I think
it was pink tights) - but still looking good, though - and I was amazed
by her beautifull and powerfull voice. In the band was an unknown girl;
she was singing the choir and playing the piano, and a few months later
she, the talented Sascha Dupont, was known all over Denmark
as one of the pianists in DR´s Hit Med Sangen.
A lot of things has happened since then. Freya has made
two wonderfull albums, one as a solo artist and one as a member of the/her
band Sparkler. And on July the 17th I went to my first
Sparkler concert ever (yes, I know it´s pretty
late, but A: Sparkler rarely perform at Fyn and B: When
they finally did, at Café Oskar, I couldn´t
be there).
And let me say it at once: It was a fabulous, lovely, really good concert!
WITHOUT DOUBT! About 8.000 (a guess) people were there; and yes, some
people - but not many - left during the concert, but there were also
people who ARRIVED to listen during the concert. The band seemed to
have fun, and especially Kåre seemed to enjoy it.
It was a pleasure to see him nod his head to the music, singing along
and smile.
Freya was wearing a green and white cap, a black top with
bare back, 3/4 jeans and orange stillettoes, and though it may sound
like a weird mixture, it actually looked great on her.
The
first song they played was Stop, a good choice to begin
with (... except that the title "Stop" maybe isn´t
that good for a starting-song). Then they played Mr. Pete.
The bass part was a bit different compared to the album version, and
Freya didn´t sing "oh-uh-a-a-a"
in the start plus between the "real text", like she does on
the cd. It's a pity, I think, because it sounds really good.
The next song was Tiger, which almost everybody know.
I do not think that it is the best number on the record, but it was
great to hear it live, though. Some small changes in the drums, I think.
The fourth number was I See Stars, one of my favourites
on Magnifying Glass. It was played more slowly compared
to the album version, which was a pity. But with Freya´s
fantastic voice, it was still very beautiful, especially in the choruses.
The next songs were Magnifying Glass, the cover-song Talkin´
`bout A Revoulution and Someone Else To Dig, followed
by You Belong To Me with a very nice guitar solo. The
ninth song was Fool For You, which was performed very
beautifully, and then suddenly, in the middle of the song, Rune
was singing some lines from Like A Rolling Stone, solo.
I had no idea that Rune sang so well! You can´t
hear that, when he is only singing the choir, but he sings really good.
It was a very nice surprise!
Then they played Why Should I Worry, and the final number
was called You Don´t Notice, I believe (Freya
didn´t introduce it). Unfortunately Sparkler didn´t
give an encore :-(
I
am already looking forward to the next time I can see Freya
and the band live; it was a very good experience! ... And all my way
home I was singing I See Stars, Why Should I Worry,
Fool For You, Someone Else To Dig ... of course!
