Saturday,
June 28th - the final day with music on Nibe Festival
- Sparkler played their concert at the Måneskin
Scenen. The concert was planned to start at 6 P.M. according
to the brochures and festival-newspapers, but due to problems with the
bass, the concert wasn't able to start right away. So some of the audience
lost patience and left the tent to listen to some of the other bands
in stead.
When everything was set and the concert could begin, Sparkler
started out by playing the wonderful Total Control - one
of my personal favourites, which was followed by Stop,
Mr. Pete and Tiger. Especially during the
last mentioned song the audience recognised the radio and TV-hit and
they seemed to get more vivid. After Tiger they played
the very beautiful songs I See Stars and Magnifying
Glass.
Sparkler also played Tracy Chapman's Talkin' 'bout
A Revolution, but unfortunately not many people where left to
hear this beautiful version of the old song, as one of the main names
of the festival, Poul Krebs, had just started his concert
on the main stage (he went on stage at 6:30 P.M.).
I think it is a shame that the reviewers in the newspapers don't pay
any attention to this, and conclude that people left the tent due to
a bad concert in stead of looking at the time the other artists on the
big stage began their concerts. After all they are professionals, so
at least you could expect a bit research from them (wrong quotations,
wrong text-titles etc. are also common slips every time you read concert-
and album-reviews).
A lot of artists suffered being surpassed by the main artists, as they
lost part of their audience when the artists on the main stage started
playing. I don't think this had anything to do with whether the bands
gave a good or bad concert. It was just bad luck if they had to play
at the same time as one of the bands on the main stage ...
When Sparkler's second single, Someone
Else To Dig, was played, they moved on to the soft and sweet
You Belong To Me. You could just feel how the audience
hardly breathed and just stood there and listened to this fantastic
piece of art (as you might guess this is also one of my absolute favourites!)
Fool For You, Why Should I Worry and You
Don't Notice were the last songs played at the concert in Nibe.
As can be seen on the set list, Sparkler had prepared
Free Session as the encore song, but because of the delays
caused by the bass-problems, there wasn't any time for that and the
crew started preparing for the next band as soon as Sparkler
left stage.
As
a final remark I would just like to say that Stephan and
I thought it was a very good concert Sparkler gave in
Nibe! You could really feel the energy from the stage and how all the
members of Sparkler gave a bit of their own personality
to the band.
When you feel how much Freya, Rune,
Peter, Kåre and Jakob enjoy
playing together on stage, it just adds something special to the fantastic
experience a Sparkler-concert always is.
