Karen
Tivoli, Copenhagen
12. August 2005

I've already photographed Karen twice, in Glostrup, 3. November 2000 and in Rødovre, 1. April 2005. The Rødovre gig was the debut concert of The Ballarina Tour 2005 and so I also did this gig in Tivoli at the end of the tour. Only Skanderborg Festival'en two days later remained.
On the musical side Karen and the band has improved since the debut in April. The unique Karen-R'n'B-style had got a twist of rock, which sounded very suitable for a live performance. Karen's music is rather unique, as she's the only Danish artist creating music like this.
The audience got a big surprise when the first verse of Ballarina was done in a Big Band version, backed by Copenhagen Show Band, vintage Marilyn Monroe fashion. With delicious Monroe-shaped Karen perforning very sexy on stage. A girl in the crowd shouted: "Lækker røv" ("nice ass") by which Karen smiled and thanked. Karen is definitely the most sexy female artist on the Danish music scene today, as Freya seems to be temporary absent at the rock scene.
Another surprise was Mikkel Mund from Rent Mel rapping on one song, I Nat Er Vi.

Karen is a dream on stage for a photographer, which I hope is obvious when you enjoy the pictures below:
