The Verges
Melody Maker Contest
Pumpehuset, Copenhagen

18. August 2006

In the beginning of July I made a promotion photo series of The Verges (See here). So far I had only heard a demo, which convinced me that they had something special to offer. So I had to see them performing live. As part of The Melody Maker Contest, they played at Pumpehuset together with three other bands, Jutta Lane, Anubia and Pickled Platypus (click on the bandnames to see my photos of their performances).
The Verges played a spectacular set of their grand songs - all originals - but in my opinion they're even better on record! Their complicated music is hard to reproduce on stage, just like The Beatles' last albums is difficult to perform live. In the studio they are really outstanding, - I look foreward to the release of their debut album!
The music reminds me of a mix of The Doors and Saybia, and the best song in my opinion was Hidden Fortune, which also is the opening song on their excellent demo.
